Box Ball

This morning in a physical education class, I played a game called Box Ball which may also be called mat ball. It is very similar to kickball but has different scoring. The runners do not have to advance the bases, the runner can circle the bases up to three times, and if the runner leaves the base, they must advance to the following base without being tagged or thrown out. The way we played with four bases could be improved. In high school I played a similar game but with six bases. The runners had more of a chance to make it so they would make more risks and try to steal bases making them more active. The bases today were too spaced out with four. I feel like after a good warm-up that this game can be very exciting and fun to play on occasion and that in the clas room it could keep students active for a long period of time which is very important.

Slippery Rock Men's Club Lacrosse

Slippery Rock Men's Club Lacrosse team is coming off of its first two losses of their short season. Rock Lacrosse this past weekend was in Columbus, Ohio for Ohio State's NCLL tournament. We started off strong knocking off Bowling Green and Louisville Friday night after a long three hour drive from The Rock. Saturday morning, we faced our first defeat by D1 Ohio University. There was great conflict because late in the game down by one goal, sophomore midfielder Matt Hamil ripped the net with a blistering shot and the referees claimed the ball never went in the net. The ref's made note of the hole only after giving OU the win on the tournament bracket. This loss caused a lower seeding for the tournament's play offs allowing Slippery Rock an opportuninty for revenge. Slippery Rock easily knocked off its next opponent Denison but was very unsuccessful with its second attemt to defeat OU.

Slippery Rock Weather

I'm sure that all of the students, staff, and residents at Slippery Rock have become accustomed to Slippery Rock weather. The weather in Slippery Rock completely blows my mind. On a Monday, it can be a beautiful day at 74 degrees sunny with birds out chirping then by Wednesday, it will drop to 30 degrees and the grass will be covered with frost. My issue with the weather is that as a student, you can never tell what your need to wear without opening the window in transition seasons (Fall and Spring).
